Future Tourism CRC
“IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT WE REBUILD THE TOURISM SECTOR IN A SAFE, EQUITABLE AND CLIMATE FRIENDLY MANNER”
United Nations SECRETARY-GENERAL
Tourism, Hospitality and Events (THE) industries in Australia contribute over $60 billion to GDP, directly and indirectly employ 996,000 Australians and count for over 8% of Australia’s total exports, making tourism the fourth largest export industry. However, the industry was impacted by the 2019-20 bushfires and then devastated by COVID-19. Furthermore, unprecedented floods in 2022 further impacted recovery efforts and the industry now challenged by the effects of climate change.
Post-pandemic, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reshape the industry as we rebuild and refocus destinations and experiences. The Future Tourism Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) will position itself to enable sustainable and regenerative tourism growth as global markets look to more responsible and sustainable options.
Our Vision
Our vision is a future where tourism has a positive impact on the environment, economy, and community. The CRC will reflect First Nation’s knowledge, develop capability, and technological tools to support the industry’s transformation.
